Thai Port 3-1 TOT

The first floodlit game at the PAT stadium this season saw Thai Port defeat TOT 3-1 in the Toyota League Cup.

The first goal of the game was gifted to TOT in 10 minutes after some slack Thai Port defending. The TP defence failed to win possession inside their half and allowed TOT's striker, Nattaphol, a clear run in on goal. He subsequently opened the scoring and the 5 TOT fans inside the stadium celebrated with a light ripple of applause - It was a shocking turnout considering it's only a 30 minute drive from Chaeng Wattana.

Their joy only lasted 15 minutes as Ekkapoom, who was playing a more central role tonight, scampered through the middle of the TOT defence to level.

After that goal, Thai Port always looked more likely to score and they thought they had gone 2-1 up near the break after Stevie Robb had headed the ball into the net after some ping-pong in the box. It wasn't to be as the referee had already pointed to the spot in the build up to the goal. Worawut stepped up to take the spot kick and he buried it in the bottom right corner although it must be said that the TOT keeper got very close to it.

The second half was a bit tame and it became a tense midfield battle. Nevertheless, the tie was wrapped up 5 minutes from time as Ekkapoom yet again burst through the middle of the away side's defence to send the Khlong Toei side into the last 16.

It was nice for the home side to finally play a game under the floodlights tonight. However, in the second half you could clearly see the 4 shadows from each player under the lights which indicates that the floodlights are still substandard. This issue will have to be addressed by either PAT or SuperRich.

  1. Good atmosphere there tonight? What would you guess the attendance was?

  2. The attendance was announced as 2100 although I thought there were more than that. They obviously don't count the freebie kids or the people that have sneaked under the fences.
The atmosphere was good. There are now singing sections behind both goals. The ones in the smaller section near the away fans now do the 'Poznan' everytime TP score.

  3. I was gonna ask you whether kids pay to get in these days. The attendances that get announced seem very, very low. Either someone has their fingers in the till or loads of people/kids inside the Stadium don't pay to get in - and therefore don't count on the attendance figure. Let's hope it's the latter.

  4. I think a few of the kids sneak in or slip the security 20 baht to let them in. It doesn't bother me if the kids get away with this as it gives them a chance to watch the football.

I've been to watch TP a few times this season and there have been some surprisingly low attendance figures announced. I'm not sure why they're so low.

  5. Me too. They should definitely let kids in for free or a nominal fee like 10 baht. They are the fanbase of the future.
