TPL & Div 1 Average Attendances 2011

I thought it was time to wipe the dust off my calculator and work out the average attendances for TPL and Division 1 clubs.
The figures for the first half of the season have been taken from the official Thai Premier League site. To calculate the figures, I just added up each teams home attendances and divided it by the number of games played.
The attendances given on the official TPL site are often questionable so I would advise you to take the accuracy of these figures with a large pinch of salt.

  1. I think the most interesting thing here is that the top eight in Division 1 doesn't contain a single Bangkok club.

  2. And the bottom 8 are all based in Bangkok and its environs.
It would be interesting to compare the figures of the 5 regional leagues. At a guess I'd say the average BKK figures would be between 300-400.

  3. I can only speak for the northeast division really, but we've been averaging about 2,000 this season, but there was over 3,000 for the last home match. Surin get around 2,000-3,000 for most home games. Roiet are in the 1500-2000 bracket; Loei, 3,000-4,000. Yasothon and Chaiyaphum get around 1,000. Nong Bua Lamphu, Ubon Tiger and Mukdahan are in the low hundreds. I don't know about the others.

I would take an educated guess that the BKK Region of the RL has the lowest attendances. I know it's been said that BKK Christian are the best supported club in the BKK Region, and what do they get? 600-700?
Why is this? Too many clubs in BKK? Too mnay other things competing for people's time?

  4. I would agree with you that the Bangkok region will have the lowest attendances out of all the regional leagues. There are probably too many clubs linked to universities. The average working person has no desire to cheer for an institute that basically wants nothing to do with them.

I've been to a few Kasetsart games this season and even though they're chasing promotion they're still only being watched by about 300 spectators.

I'm pleased to see that the north-eastern clubs are attracting decent crowds. I'm sure if one of Loei, Roi Et, Surin or Khorat ever made the TPL they'd be pushing crowds of 10,000.

  5. Certainly. I think it's understandable that Loei get good gates as they've been champions for the past two years; Roiet have seen their gates rise ten-fold this season compared with their past two seasons as they lead the division. But it's Surin that really impress me. They've done little for the past few seasons, but always get the same few thousand turning up every week.
I'll be disappointed if we don't fill our stadium if we ever play in the TPL.
