The most intriguing game of the weekend will be at the Yamaha Stadium between Muangthong United and BEC Tero. There will be a bit of added spice to the game as BEC signed several players from Muangthong during the close season. Ex MTU striker Ronnachai, has been finding the net regularly since moving to BEC Tero at the beginning of the year. He became surplus to requirements at the Yamaha and I’m sure he’ll be out to prove a point to his former team. Interestingly, the renowned Thai goalscorer, Anon, moved across town in the other direction. He was banging in goals left, right and center for BEC but so far he hasn’t recaptured his BEC Tero form and only has a couple of goals to his name. It will be a close game but I can see the home side nicking it by the odd goal.
In the first division, the game that catches my eye is the RBAC v Bangkok FC one on Sunday. RBAC have been abysmal this season but they’ll be encouraged after last week’s victory over Chiang Mai. Their first win was achieved in monsoon conditions and they were fortunate the game wasn’t postponed as the pitch was basically a quagmire. I guess RBAC will be hoping for similar monsoon conditions at their Ladprao 107 home on Sunday. On the other hand, I think it’s pretty safe to say that Bangkok FC must be sick of the sight of rain as a recent home game with FC Phuket was abandoned due to unplayable conditions with minutes left on the clock. At that stage Bangkok were leading 5-2 and were bitterly disappointed when the ref abandoned the match. Bangkok FC have improved in recent weeks and they’ll see this game as a great opportunity for 3 points.
