Sunday15 September Review

TPL

Chainat 2-0 Ratchaburi
Songkhla Utd 1-2 Army Utd
Suphanburi 3-0 Bangkok Utd

Suphanburi got back to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Bangkok United. Naphat headed the War Elephants into a 39th minute lead before late goals from from Sutee and Boskovic added a touch of gloss to the result.
Aron da Silva returned to Songkhla and bagged the winner in Army's 2-1 win. Tossawat fired the guests into the lead before Atitat levelled on the stroke of half time. Aron da Silva pounced on a defensive error to net the winner midway through the second period. Songkhla United are now nine without a win and only 1,921 locals were in attendance yesterday.
Sumanya scored directly from a corner to give Chianat an 18th minute lead over Ratchaburi. The Dragons had a great chance to level 12 minutes from time but Douglas blazed his spot kick over the bar. Somjet made it 2-0 five minutes into injury time to secure the three points for the Hornbills.

Division 1

BBCU 1-1 TTM
Khon Kaen 1-1 PTT Rayong
Rayong Utd 1-1 Nakhon Pathom Utd
Trat 1-1 Ayutthaya

Bizarrely all four Division 1 matches ended in 1-1 draws. Pipat's equalizer in the 42nd minute moved PTT Rayong seven points ahead of fourth placed Bangkok FC. For Khon Kaen they are five points above the drop zone.
Elsewhere at the foot of the table, Ayutthaya's draw at Trat edged them two points clear of Rayong FC while TTM's point at BBCU gives them a five point buffer. Rayong United's point at home to Nakhon Pathom United wasn't much use as they have a six point deficit to make up on third bottom Ayutthaya.

  1. TPL Title Race:
Buriram looks prime to take the title for the second time in three seasons.
They are still undefeated in this TPL campaign with the only lost coming via Rayong FC in the Leg 1 for Toyota League Cup Semi-finals.

Muangthong been winning without the one number keeper Kawin Thamsatchanan who was injured again and seems to be out for the season. Even though their chance to win the league looks slim but, their chance to get AFC Champions League could be viable.
The FA Cup is the other route for getting to the Champions League. They are drawn against arch rival Buriarm for a clash at Thammasart Rangsit University on Wednesday September 25th. If they win the game, the faith of Champions League would be in their own hands either against Police United or Bangkok Glass. And if they lose, a Buriram winning the cup would still get them champions league via league runner-up position to Buriram.

    TPL Relegation Battle:
Chiangrai United looks all but doomed to go down.
The home lost to Osotspa was a big blow.
But, the Samut Songkhram away win at Police who was on a 5 game unbeaten run was almost like a stake into the heart of the Fighting Beetles.
The next three games for Chiangrai United are Bec Tero Sasana, Army and Chonburi. They would be lucky to come out with any points. Even if, Pattaya United loses all the remaining 5 game. I do not see six points in Changrai's future

    Div 1 Title Race:
Air Force's 4 points lead was tested away to Gulf Saraburi. The heavy rain through out the game was make the football sloppy which lead to two goals from Saraburi and another goal for the Airmen. The Airmen's equalizer was dash by a linesmen offside goal on what looked to be a goal, the VDO angle was not certain if, the poacher was offside or not. The lost was a setback for the AirMen's title challenge. Now open the chance for PTT Rayong, Singhtarua and Bangkok FC to close the gap on them.
Singhtarua came from behind to beat Krabi 2-1 to close the gap to just six points with a final day game at home against the Air Force to possibly decide their TPL fate or title winner.
Bangkok FC lost away to Sriracha makes their title challenge almost over but the promotion hopes are still alive. The Bulligans trailing by just 3 points accompany that with a soft schedule given them a real shot to still make it to the country top league.
On Sunday PTT Rayong must have felt that luck is on their side. A win could put them within one point for Air Force. The game against relegation battler was not an easy one for the Oil Men and they had to come from behind to get an equalizer. The gained one point on Air Force but lose ground to Singhtarua. The game home game on Sunday 22nd would be a game they will need a positive result.

    Div 1 Relegation Battle:
Including Beating Buriram in the first leg of Toyota League Cup, Rayong FC have four games in a row. The latest win a 1-0 score at home against Phuket put them just 2 point behind Ayutthaya for safety.
Rayong United has also collected 7 points in the last three games putting them with a slight hope of surviving. If they manage to beat Air Force at home in the next game they could setup a clash with Ayutthaya the week after for their survival defining game.
Ayutthaya also on a run which saw them collect five points in last three games. They will be working hard to hold off the Rayong Twins from overtaking them.
Khonkaen form of one win in last five game is must be a concern for the club who looked at one point in a safe zone. They will also be looking avoid a consecutive relegation from the premier league to the Division 2.

  3. Normally, I like writing on your post, it allows me to be a fan of Air Force.
As I am a fan of your blog.

Then, I use the same ideas and make it more reporting like for TFL than a fan based comment.
Writing comments on your blog kind of inspire me to help out other site that provide English News on Thai Football.

  4. Thank you. Your comments are always appreciated :-)
That's one good thing about commenting on this blog as you can do it as an Air Force fan.

This season I've probably watched more Div 1 games than TPL. It's been a more exciting division as the TPL has been a two horse race right from the start. I've enjoyed following the Div 1 promotion race and I pity the team that misses out. I'm sure Air Force won't be that side though!!
