Muangthong Utd 2-0 Hanoi T&T
Jay Bothroyd inspired Muangthong to victory as the Englishman grabbed his first goal in Thailand. It was a sluggish opening to the tie but that changed ten minutes before the interval when a headed knock back from Bothroyd was smashed home by Mario Gjurovski.
In the 55th minute, Hanoi were reduced to ten men after Sam Gallagher was given a straight red for pulling back Teerasil as he headed in on goal. Gallagher wasn't impressed with the decision and within seven minutes the game was over as a contest. Jay Bothroyd embarked on a powerful run from 40 yards out before unleashing a shot that cannoned off the underside of the bar into the net.
Both sides eased off and seemed content with the 2-0 score line. In injury time, the Korean official dismissed a player from each side for an off the ball incident and as a result Ahtit and Samson got a head start on the rest of the players for the shower queue.
Muangthong travel to Australia next Saturday to face Melbourne Victory. The winner of this contest will qualify for the AFC Champions League group stages.
A trip to Bejing awaits for Chonburi after they comfortably beat South China 3-0.
The first goal came after 18 minutes when Pipob rose above his marker to bullet home a header at the near post from Natthaphong's cross.
Kushida and Narul should have doubled the lead before Thiago Cunha did in the 36th minute. The Brazilian nodded home from close range after the South China keeper had parried an Anderson flick on from Narul's set piece directly into his path.
Thiago got his second goal ten minutes after the interval. He sprang the offside trap before rounding the keeper and slotting home into an empty net.
Chonburi now have six days to prepare their winter woolies for their trip to Beijing Guoan next Saturday.
