Udon Thani and Luk Tapfah from the regional leagues made it to the last 16 after knocking out TPL opposition. Udon Thani sent struggling Samut Songkhram to the exit door with a 2-1 victory while Luk Tapfah beat Chainat on penalties.
Other TPL casualties were BEC Tero who lost on penalties at Khon Kaen and Suphanburi who were beaten 2-1 at Siam Navy. That match had a bizarre incident in the first half when the referee awarded Suphanburi a penalty. Granted it wasn't a penalty but what followed was farcical. Navy walked off while Suphanburi lined up to take the spot kick and then after ongoing discussions Suphanburi appeared to walk off. The referee was then going to give a drop ball before Jetsada deliberately miscued the penalty wide of the target and his miss was greeted with warm handshakes from the Navy players. The Division 1 side scored a late goal to send the understrength TPL out of the competition.
