Weekend Review 24/25 September

TPL
Khon Kaen 1-1 Sisaket
Osotspa 4-0 TOT
Thai Port 0-1 Buriram PEA
Police 2-1 Chiang Rai Utd
Pattaya 3-0 Samut Songkram
BEC Tero 1-0 Army
Bangkok Glass 4-0 TTM Pichit

TOT self-imploded in Saraburi on Saturday. They were looking good for a point with 15 minutes left on the clock, but they somehow managed to concede 4 late goals. The catalyst for the goal blitz was a needless trip by Kone Mohammed which gave away a penalty kick. Cleiton converted from the spot before Kritsada netted a hat-trick.
Buriram PEA won the potential Toyota League Cup final dress rehearsal with a 1-0 win at the PAT over Thai Port.
At the Thephasadin, BEC Tero edged out near neighbors Army Utd with a 2nd half goal from Ronnachai.
Up in Pathumthani, both Bangkok Glass and Police United secured home wins. BG's front pairing of Sarayoot and Saruta were too hot to handle as the Rabbits ran riot with 4 first half goals. Over at Thammasart,  Chakrit scored in the 92nd minute to give Police Utd a 2-1 victory over 10 men Chiang Rai Utd.

Division 1
JW Rangsit 1-0 Bangkok Utd
BBCU 0-0 Songkla
Buriram 2-1 Customs
Raj Pracha 1-1 RBAC
Chantaburi P-P Saraburi
Phuket 3-0 PTT Rayong
Suphanburi 1-1 Chiang Mai
Bangkok 3-1 Chainat
Air Force 0-0 Thai Honda

The top game between BBCU and Songkla was a tepid 0-0 draw. Both sides though gained one more point on third placed Chainat who surprisingly went down 3-1 at Bangkok FC. Lee Tuck missed a first half penalty for the Bulligans, but he made amends in the second half with two assists and a goal. Wins for Bangkok FC and JW Rangsit weren't good news for RBAC and Thai Honda. They bottom 2 both lost ground despite securing good away draws.
Bangkok United can not blame the curse of the Thai Japanese Stadium for their 1-0 loss at JW Rangsit. United have lost 4 of their last 5 games on the road, and should perhaps be looking at changing their coach rather than their home stadium.

Division 2 (Bangkok)
Globex 2-2 Raj Vithi
Prachinburi 0-2 Nth Bangkok
NSRU 4-0 Thanyaburi Asia Utd
Assumption Thonburi 1-1 Nontaburi
Kasetsat 2-1 TA Luk Issan
Kasem Bundit 2-2 Jamjuree
Samut Prakarn Utd 0-0 Thai Fleet
Mapthaput Rayong 2-1 Bkk Christian

There is still a bit of confusion on how a tie for second place would be decided if North Bangkok and Samut Prakarn United finished level on points. I believe it's head-to-head, wins, goal difference and then goals for. If that is the case, North Bangkok have already qualified as the H2H is level so North Bangkok's 18 wins trumps SPK Utd's 15.
Anyway, Samut Prakarn blew it big time as the could only draw 0-0 at home to lowly Thai Fleet. North Bangkok earned a good 2-0 win at Prachinburi to virtually guarantee themselves a spot in the Champs league.

Midweek Fixtures
(AFC Cup - Last 8)
Muangthong v Kuwait SC (0-1)
Nasaf v Chonburi (1-0)

The two ties will be played on Tuesday evening. Both Thai teams lost 1-0 in the first legs. Muangthong have home advantage and have a good chance of reaching the semi final for the second consecutive season. Chonburi would need to produce something remarkable to win in Uzbekistan.

  1. A scrappy 1-0 win and going through on penalties would do me. :-)

  2. 'Bulligans' - love it! It sounds like an Irish-themed gastro pub!

  3. Not only for Nasaf. You could do with a similar outcome when you play PEA next Saturday.

NRFC, see if you can slip "Bulligans" into your weekly BK Mag column next week. :)
