Weekend Round-Up 23/24 July

World Cup Qualifier Round 2 (First leg)
Thailand 1-0 Palestine

The only goal of the game was a deflected strike by Jakkraphan Buathong. Thailand had chances to increase their lead but failed to add to it. Suchao hit the post with an injury time penalty which leaves Thailand with a narrow 1-0 lead. The return leg will be played in Palestine on Thursday and Schaefer's men will face the added difficulty of having to play on an artificial pitch.

Coke Super Cup
TPL All-Stars v Chelsea (Sun)

A crowd of over 40,000 watched Chelsea stroll to a comfortable 4-0 victory over the TPL All-Stars. The West London side barely got out of first gear and you have to wonder what the score could have been if the the Blue's forward trio of Torres, Anelka and Sturridge weren't so inept in front of goal for the first hour. Chelsea's goals came from Lampard, Bosingwa, Ivanovic and Malouda. The pick of the goals was Ivanovic's side footed finish after a good run and link up play from midfield.

It wasn't all one way traffic as the TPL All-Stars kept the various Chelsea stoppers busy with testing shots from Acheampong, Worawut and Leandro. The young Ghanaian, Frank Achaempong, looked lively throughout and is surely destined to play in one of the top European leagues in the near future.

Globex v Thai Fleet (Mon)

For the second consecutive game, Raj Vithi came from a goal behind to win 2-1 at the Regency Stadium. They are only a point behind Kasetsrt who were held to a goalless draw by Bangkok Christian.
Yet again, for the umpteenth Monday of late, North Bangkok will go top of the league if they can beat lowly opposition at home. The Horsemen have 2 home games to play this week and they could open up a 4 point lead at the top if they are victorious in both games.
At the other end of the table, it almost certain Thai Airways Luk Issan will finish bottom of the pile and will be awarded with the league's booby prize. They were soundly beaten 3-0 by an average Kasem Bundit team.
