Buriram PEA win FA Cup after Extra Time

Buriram PEA won the Thai FA Cup after Frank Achaempong hit an extra time winner to beat Muangthong United 1-0 at the Supachalasai Stadium.

The league champions were the better team throughout and would have won the game earlier had it not been for an inspired performance by Kawin in the Muangthong goal.

The first half was slow and scrappy to begin with but livened up as the half progressed. Teerasil should have given the Kirins the lead midway through the half, but he pulled his shot wide from Fowler's centre. Moments later, Franck Ohandza struck the base of the post and Frank Achaempong shot over as Buriram PEA came close.

Shortly after the interval, Muangthong keeper, Kawin, was twice called upon to keep out shots from Ohandza. On 78 minutes, the Muangthong stopper superbly tipped a goal bound Abbo shot over the bar and he thwarted the same man again deep into injury time. It wasn't all one way traffic as Muangthong came close ten minutes from time when a left foot shot from Fowler crept just wide of the target.

The winning goal came three minutes into the second half of extra time. A cute flick on from Abbo set up Achaempong and the African cut inside two defenders before unleashing his shot into the roof of the net. That goal was enough for Buriram PEA to complete the league and FA Cup double.
