Buriram United made it a two horse race with Muangthong United for the TPL title after a convincing 4-1 win at Chonburi. Buriram's joy at beating Chonburi would have been doubled when they found out that nine-man table leaders Muangthong had lost 3-1 at Suphanburi.
The opening exchanges in this contest were rather cagey with neither side committing too many men forward.
On 25 minutes the breakthrough was made when a Theerethon free kick wasn't dealt with by Sinthaweechai and Tanasak took advantage of the error to knock the ball in from close range.
Adul could have equalized a few minutes later, but fired over the bar from the edge of the box after Pipob had set him up.
In first half stoppage time, Chonburi thought they'd levelled when Thiago netted via a parried save by Sivaruk. However, the Malaysian officials thought otherwise and the goal was ruled out for offside which meant the Thunder Castle went in 1-0 to the good at half time.
Eight minutes after the interval, Adul was teed up again at the edge of the box, but this time he sliced his shot wide.
One minute later though, Buriram made it 2-0. Kai Hirano found acres of space behind the Chonburi right back, and his cross into the box was dummied by Carmelo which left the unmarked Javier Patino the simple task of side-footing home.
Thiago blazed over the bar and Pipob couldn't connect to a low cross from Kushida as the hosts tried to get quickly back into the game.
Pipob again had a glorious chance for a goal in the 75th minute, but he headed wide from inside the six yard box.
Three minutes later, the game appeared to be over when Ekkachai hit a Carmelo cutback into the roof of the net.
Chonburi could have given up, but moments later a Pipob back heeler was ruled out for offside despite it looking suspiciously onside.
Nonetheless, with nine minutes left on the clock, Narul fired home a long ball from Diakite to reduce the deficit to 3-1.
In injury time, a quickly taken free kick caught the Chonburi defence napping and Carmelo Gonzalez made it 4-1.
The win for Buriram moved them six points clear of the Sharks and with Muangthong's loss at Suphanburi, it reduced the gap at the top to only one point.

Buriram United 2-1 Bunyodkor
A 76th minute header from substitute Ekkachai Sumrei ensured Buriram pulled of an impressive 2-1 home win over Uzbek powerhouse Bunyodkor.
Bunyodkor's second choice stopper, Murod Zukharov, was the busier keeper early doors. First, he scooped away Theerathon's free kick with his feet after it had came through a cluster of players, and soon afterwards he had to parry away an Adisak shot.
Buriram's early pressure paid off when they took the lead in the 17th minute. A delightful ball from Jirawat skiffed off the back of Anawin past Zukharov after the Buriram winger had snuck in behind the Bunyodkor defence.
Six minutes later, Buriram should have doubled their advantage, but Kai Hirano blazed a rebound over the bar after the Uzbek keeper had been forced into a save.
Bunyodkor had done virtually nothing in the opening 30 minutes, but they gradually improved as the half neared the 45 minutes mark. The Buriram defence were living dangerously as the Uzbek side delivered some testing balls from set pieces.
The persistence of the the Swallows finally paid off as they levelled in first half injury time. It was no surprise that their goal came following a set piece. Sivakorn blocked a delivery from the right with his legs, but it was then chipped across the goal for substitute Igor Taran to volley home.
That goal seemed to take the wind out of Buriram's sails as they found it difficult to keep the same attacking tempo in the early stages of the second half.
On the hour, Bunyodkor almost made it 2-1 when Murzoev's shot on the turn rattled the top of the goal stanchion.
However, on 76 minutes Buriram retook the lead when Ekkachai looped a header inside the far post following a free kick from his former Thai Port colleague Jirawat.
The expected fightback from Bunyodkor never really materialized although they should have had a penalty in the 92nd minute when Anawin bundled over Taran as he was about to pull the trigger. The Aussie whistler, who'd otherwise had a good game, failed to award the spot kick and some would say it was a bit of pay back after the number 9 had tumbled rather easily on a couple of occasions prior to this.
Nonetheless, Buriram claimed a deserved 2-1 victory, but Bunyodkor will still be favorites to progress when the second leg is played next Tuesday at the recently built Bunyodkor Stadium.

FC Seoul 2-2 Buriram United
Buriram United reached the knockout stage of the ACL after a roller coaster evening in Seoul.
The Thunder Castle twice equalized moments after going behind to draw 2-2 with FC Seoul while in Japan, Vegalta Sendai unexpectedly lost 2-1 at home to Jaingsu Sainty to ensure that the Thai side progressed.
FC Seoul made sweeping changes to their side with ten alterations while a depleted Buriram squad could only name four substitutes on their bench.
Despite the wholesale changes, it was the Koreans who made the better start with Kim Hyun Sung and Ko Kwang Min spurning half decent chances for early goals.
The opening period burst into life ten minutes before the interval. Kim Hyun Sung latched onto a layoff to poke straight at Siwaruk while at the other end, Yu Sang Hun had to be alert to block from Adisak after the Buriram man had raced onto a weakly headed backpass.
Four minutes before the break, Hirano was pulled back by Han Tae You on the edge of the box and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. An unconvincing Carmelo Gonzalez stepped up to take the kick and his soft effort was pushed out for a corner by Yu Sang Hun.
The young keeper then denied Adisak again in the last minute of the half by spreading his large frame in front of the Buriram wide man.
FC Seoul tinkered with their formation at the interval and it paid dividends in the 54th minute when Jung Seung Yong slotted home at the back post to finish off a delicious passing move.
Two minutes later, the Thunder Castle roared back when a through ball from Carmelo split the Korean back four. Hirano's timed run beat the offside trap and he touched it to Ekkachai to side foot home.
The hosts retook the lead in the 74th minute with Kim Hyun Sung heading a floated Molina free kick past Siwaruk.
Unbelievably, lightning struck twice as Buriram levelled seconds afterwards for the second time. Theerathorn whipped in a free kick from the right straight through a cluster of bodies into the back of the net.
With the result in the other group game being in Buriram's favour, the objective for Buriram was to shut up shop.
They managed to do that and as the final whistle blew, Buriram players and staff anxiously awaited the final score from Vegalta Sendai.
It did finish 2-1 for Jaingsu Sainty which means that Buriram will now take on Bunyodkor of Uzbekistan in a two legged tie in the Round of 16.

Thai Port 3-0 Khon Kaen
As today was Sasom Pobpraserd swansong as Thai Port manager, there was only ever going to be one winner.The 3 Thai Port goals were scored by Sompong, Alef and Ekkachai. All 3 along with Jirawat played their last game for the Klong Toei side today. They will be heading to Buriram FC along with Sasom Pobpraserd.
The departing players and coach will be dropping down a league to Division 1. After watching Khon Kaen today, I think it's safe to say that they'll be heading in the same direction at the end of the season.
It only took Thai Port 8 minutes to open the scoring when Sompong got inbetween defender and goalie on the edge of the box to dink a header over the keeper into the empty net.
Alef finally scored his first goal for Thai Port in his last ever game for the club. He converted a penalty after an unneccesy trip on Sompong from a Khon Kaen defender. Alef's first goal was scored with his bright pink boots. I wonder if he'll take them to Buriram with him?
It was 2-0 at half-time and it was really just a case of how many Thai Port would score.
Ekkachai rounded things off from close range with a third in the second half.
It finished 3-0 and at the end of the game coach Sasom and the departing players waved goodbye to the Klong Toei Army.
So what now for Thai Port? Has the reported new coach,Thongchai Sukkokee, been hired for his potential and coaching ability or is it because his wage demands tick the right boxes?
The pessamistic Port fan will be worried that all the top players will leave and the team will be full of untried youngsters. He/She won't be able to relax until it's mathematically certain that Thai Port have beaten the drop.
The optimistic fan will see this as a chance to rebuild the squad and kick on for a top 6 finish.
Whatever happens at Thai Port, you can be sure that we'll hear a lot more about Sasom Pobpraserd. For the time being, life in Division 1 might be a bit quiet for him but next season his Buriram FC team will be one of the favourites to win the Thai Premier League.

Police United 0-1 Thai Port
For the second consecutive year, Police Utd lost at home to Thai Port 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored around the half-hour mark by Ekkachai Sumrei.
The first half was pretty void of any action. Police looked to be slightly better but it was Thai Port that broke the deadlock. Jacob Aikhionbare was the architect of the first goal. His teasing low cross after a good run was knocked into a empty net by Ekkachai who had duly lost his marker.
The second 45 was better as Police United had to come out and attack. They had some good chances but found the Ulrich Munze was in good form and he pulled off a couple of excellent saves.
Thai Port were restricted to counter attacks with Jacob in particular looking lively. His best effort was tipped onto the bar by ex Thai Port stopper Pattarakorn.
In the dying stages, the game fizzled out with petty confrontations amongst players developing around the pitch. It didn't effect the outcome as Thai Port survived the additional 6 minutes of injury time and now move up to 7th in the league.
Police Utd have had a good season so far but on today's evidence, they may need to strengthen when the transfer window re-opens if they want to finish in the top 5.
Apart from the action on the pitch, it has to be said that the Thammasart Stadium is one of the best stadiums in Thailand. Nonetheless it must be pointed out that the seats in the stadium are filthy. I must have about 5 years worth of dust on me after leaving there today.
Also for some reason today, they wouldn't sell beer outside the home end but it was readily available at the away end. I'm not sure what that's all about.

Thai Port 3-2 BEC Tero
Thai Port's good run continued with a 3-2 victory over near neighbours BEC Tero Sasana. In the space of 4 days, the Thai Port fans have seen their side score 6 goals in the last 2 home games as apposed to 4 in the first 5 homes games.
Thai Port were in complete control of the match just before the break with goals from Ekkachai on 20 minutes and Jacob Aikhionbare on 43. The idea should have been to keep it tight until the interval but Port gave BEC Tero a lifeline on the verge of half-time when Chris Brandon struck from inside the 6 yard box after an initial decent parry from Ulrich Munze.
Thai Port coach, Sasom, now had the decision of whether to add to the lead or shut up shop. After 10 minutes of the second half, Sasom raised a few eyebrows and pulled off two attacking midfielders for defensive midfielders.
It seemed a bit early to be closing out the game with 35 minutes left, but the decision was justified when substitute Worwut added a third in the 72nd minute.
The Fire Dragons did pull one back in injury time through Ekele Udojoh, although it was too little too late.
The result means that Thai Port are only 2 points behind BEC Tero now. The early season promise shown by BEC has long since disappeared and they need something to kick start their season. Thai Port will be glad to be in the comfort zone of mid-table after hovering above the relegation area for the early part of the season.
